Passion & Dreams

Passion & Dreams

Hello people!

I’m back with a new article, but before starting I just wanted to thank all of my friends for the incredible support. Hearing people encourage me to continue makes me ecstatic about whatever’s coming for NarcisseDiary. THANK YOU!

I have decided to start something new for the diary. Every week I am going to choose a topic and ask some of my friends to answer a few questions on it. I find interesting how several people can view the same things in different and sometimes opposite ways.

Hopefully, this project is going to grow, inspire, and be relatable from the various perspectives that it will bring. If anyone has a topic they’d like to discuss, I’m open to hearing from you. I am also going to give my input since it’s a diary (DUH).

Anyways, let’s get right into it!

The first topic I chose was PASSION & DREAMS. I selected a few of my friends for the first one, so here we go!

I started with my crazy friend Dodo! I had some questions prepared, but ultimately I knew each conversation was going to lead to something different, so I just went with the flow.

I asked them to introduce themselves first. These answers are exactly as they typed them (Well except for the typos  and slang that I corrected because, OH WELL!)

My personal comments will be in purple.

Dodo💖

Dodo: Ahaha! Dorit-Lynn Elizabeth Staco (for the readers, it’s pronounced LEEN, not Line or I don’t know hahaha) 20 years old, about to be 21 on Halloween (This is legit four months away but she says « about to ». That’s Dodo for you haha). Born and raised in Haiti. I have been studying and living for the past 8 years in Canada. People describe me as crazy (Rightfully so), considerate, as having a resting B face (Still doesn’t get that one. Haha). I can be impulsive, annoying, overbearing, but it’s all love. I am determined and I try my best to be present for anyone who needs help because at the end of the day we only have one another (I don’t really understand this part myself, so it’s okay if you don’t either). Oh, and English is not my first language and I am losing my French (Haha).

At the question « What is your dream? »

Dodo: Well, my first dream would be to make it in the world (Money and Family wise), to be able to help my parents soon enough for them to enjoy their last moments on earth being proud of me. My other dream would be to become a Doctor. I’ve wanted it since I was a little girl. More precisely a Surgeon. It has nothing to do with the fact that my Mom and sister both are doctors, but for real I’m just curious about the human body and in love with the idea of saving lives. Especially after surviving an Earthquake. I made it my dream. I don’t like to mention it too much because the road to becoming one is hard and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to reach it, but I’m going to fight for it. The most important thing to me is to make enough for my parents so they can enjoy it. So all the single boys, holla at me because I will be dope in a few years (I HAVE NO IDEA WHY SHE SAID THAT! AGAIN). Don’t write that down though (Friend, you thought!).

You mentioned an earthquake. Can you go into details? When and where did it happen?

Dodo: It happened on January 12th, 2010 at 4:50 p.m. I had just came back from school. It happened so fast and lasted for barely ten seconds and yet did so much damage. My house collapsed on me and I just passed out. My uncle who was right next to me when it happened unfortunately passed away a few seconds before my brave little mom found a way to come get us out of there with the help of two young men. That day I lost family members, friends, teachers, and more all in ten short seconds. I was unable to walk so they flew me to Canada four days after to get the help I needed. Thankfully, being Canadian through my Dad I could travel quickly enough, but so many people did not have that chance. That day I realized how precious life is and on top of that how God is good. No matter what, I won’t lose faith. It changed me completely.

Would you say it’s more than just one of the reasons? Maybe it’s the reason?

Dodo: Yes, as I explained it earlier, it opened my eyes to the necessity of helping out those who don’t have means. I saw my mother trying to help to her best capacities, as well as other doctors, considering that Haiti is not a country with the best healthcare. Even being injured, I remember wishing I could help too. Seeing the rescued injured people who needed to have surgeries, I made it my goal specialization. Those moments definitely confirmed that it was the path I wanted to follow. That’s my dream.

So when you hear the word Dream, that’s what comes to your mind. What about the word Passion?

Dodo: What?! Wait, you’ve just confused me with Dreams and Passions!

So for you, these two have a similar meaning? Passions and Dreams are one?

Dodo: Well I guess so. For me at least Passion and Dream can be one thing. Or more like a mix. I am the type of person that acts upon their emotions, so when I love something, it’s at 1010191%, and if I don’t like something you will know. Some of my passions became dreams, but not all. I love art and I love singing, but I will never see them as dreams I want to achieve. They are more like my getaway passions to keep my mind straight or get through difficult times. They are a necessity to my sanity. But for real, the two notions can be close and far away at the same time. I hope you all get my overall reflexion.

I love the term « getaway » passions. I personally feel like that’s the role of a passion. It starts and grows because people find a chance to free themselves from their problems. It’s a happy place, the things you hold onto when it’s hard sometimes. Well, knowing you personally, I can say that you’ve got Passions but you’re also a passionate person. Emotions rule over logic sometimes. Haha! Would you say this is a good or bad thing?

Dodo: Yes, you’re totally right. Hahaha, trust me I found out the hard way that my emotions rule over my logic. I don’t necessarily think that it is a bad thing because emotions help you empathize with people and to me, they are what makes us human beings. To be too logical or pragmatical ALL THE TIME takes that away from us. Don’t get me wrong, logic is absolutely needed to make responsible decisions, but it’s all about finding balance. The right middle to be emotionally balanced without becoming robots with no apparent emotions. It’s very important to get to know yourself, spend time alone and with people without seeming like one more than the other. Basically, I don’t think it’s bad to be passionate, it’s just important to find a stability. I’m still working on it.

Very interesting point of view. Since this is a diary, I can go on and say that I completely agree. I’m a passionate person myself, and I often struggle to find the right way to deal with it, not for others but for myself not to suffer from it… but most of the time it’s beneficial because when I believe in something (generally good things), I fight for it. I don’t easily back down. I have a few passions myself too, so I understand.

Dodo: About the diary, the little one you gave me was super helpful. It helped me open my mind and heart to myself, before opening it to others. It helped me deal with my deepest scars. It helps to be true to oneself. (My friends, people. The best). I know you have a few passions and this one (she was referring to writing) you’re quite good at, so keep going. The crazy one will always support you! (Heart emoji)

Do you see yourself having the same Passion and Dream in two years?

Dodo: Hell yes!

My love 💗

Alright, that was Dorit-Lynn for you! As you can tell, she’s more on the expressive and passionate side (look at the way she introduced herself! Haha! I love it!). She’s been through a lot and it actually makes my heart smile seeing how she turned all of that so positively! She’s a force to reckon with, that’s for certain!

Now, onto the next one! Bibi!

Bibs💗

If I’m being honest, going into this with her, I already knew most of the answers to her questions. We often have conversations on topics like that, and we usually have opposite views and thoughts… BUT that’s also why I NEEDED to have her on this one. Not everyone should agree on everything.

Introduce yourself first!

Bibs: My name is Mariam, I am 23 years old. I live in Montreal and I am a financial analyst. (You have to know that when I asked her to introduce herself, she asked me why. Like, just do it. Haha. See how her intro is shorter than Dodo’s intro? She went straight to the point! LOL That’s Bibs for you)

What are your dreams?

Bibs: I am not much of a dreamer, so I don’t have a dream strictly speaking. I do have plans. What are those plans? I am still working on them, that’s why I’d rather not talk about them yet. It’s not that I want to be secretive or anything, it’s just that I’m still working on it. (Very down to earth) But if I had to put a name on one of my dreams, it would be to finish my book and to be able to publish it. That would be one of them. (I have ambitious friends, I’m telling you). Overall, I guess what I want to be able to have an impact on people’s lives. I know it may sound a bit corny, or cheesy, but that’s what I want to do. Especially for people back home. I want to be able to change someone’s life.

Very inspiring. I really hope you’ll be able to make them all true. That leads us to the next questions. What do think about the word passion? Is it related to dreams?

Bibs: To me, passion is merely based on strong emotions. Something we hold onto, but something that is fleeting. That is why I don’t like to use to word passion when it comes to my goals because to me it is something that fades away with time. It is not consistent.

Don’t you think that we have to be passionate about your field to make it your dream?

Bibi: Yes, it all starts with that strong feeling, then you work hard for it to become a reality.

So you don’t consider yourself as being a passionate person?

Bibi: No, because it is too based on emotions and that just doesn’t sustain.

I personally don’t think passion is all about strong emotions that fade away. I think it can be very stable and down to earth. And even if it’s based on emotions, I am pretty sure we can find people who have succeeded thanks to a passion that hasn’t gone anywhere. Passion is not only emotions.

Bibi: Well. that’s how it is defined in the dictionary.

I think you have the wrong understanding of what I am asking. I am asking about something that helps you get through the day. Something that is not necessarily related to your dream job or goal.

Bibi: I do then. Those would be Natural hair care and writing.

I see. Talking about this, I am happy that you’ve found something you loved enough to share it. I’m proud of you. Thank you for taking the time to answer those questions.

Bibi: I’m glad I was able to help too. Keep it up kiddo, this is a great idea. I’m proud of you.

For those who don’t know yet, my girl has a Natural Hair Care Snapchat account for you to follow and learn more together about natural hair and to share tips. It’s GlamNats so give it a follow now!

Bibs & Duds ❤️

There was one more person, but I thought I would rather make it a two people article. I am trying to keep your reading as light as possible.

I really hope you enjoyed this article. It was important for me to show the different perspectives. I always find it interesting how different people with diverse backgrounds can have similar views, or divergent ones and still connect.

I loved interviewing my friends and I hope to do more of those in the future.

Have the best day ❤️
